Off the Bike Path

Dragon's Tooth

Natural Bridge

Besides biking, Saz and I have found many other activities to take our minds off of our sore backsides. This past week we have visited Natural Bridge and the Natural Bridge Caverns, took a hike up to Dragon's Tooth, and spent a long weekend at a cabin in the Catawba Valley including BBQs bonfires and a canoe trip down the James River. Tomorrow we ride to Radford, VA and on to the Virginia/Kentucky border.

The Blue Ridge Mountains

Our first real test of endurance was the Blue Ridge Mountains and we succeeded! Saz and I biked 27 miles along the Blue Ridge Parkway yesterday, including the ascent and descent from the ridge. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to complete this challenging section of the Transam Bike Trail. Today, as a reward, we will be going to the movies! Enjoy the pictures.

We have to go over that!?

Camp Life

Saz and I have retired to many different spots along the bike path. We have camped behind abandoned gas stations, along rivers, on the lawns of B&Bs and of course the occasional of motel.

Biking on the Capital Trail

First Route 76 sign

Saz and I have come 95 miles so far and have been enjoying every inch (save for the obnoxious drivers who yell at us "get off the roooaad!"). We are currently in Ashland, Virginia resupplying and preparing for the next leg of our journey: the piedont prior to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Below are some highlights of the first two days. Happy Father's Day, DAD!

Getting Ready

On June 14th Saz and I will leave from Yorktown, Virginia to tour the United States on the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail. We will end in Astoria, Oregon after biking through Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, crossing both the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. We hope to post many pictures and stories of our adventures along the way.
